Cross cultural approaches: Readings in comparative research

The articles in this book were selected to illustrate different ways of analyzing social customs for cross-cultural comparisons. These approaches represent a variety of theoretical points of view and thus expose some of the fundamental problems involved in comparative research.
The various studies are thought provoking as individual pieces of research, for they are theoretically oriented. When placed as they are here, one after another, the contrast in approaches becomes sharp and clear. It is not so much the subject matter of these articles that is significant as it is the varied ways in which the subjects are analyzed and manipulated to seek answers to basic questions of a more general nature.
